The Swiss Bikeboard Jr is the same
great bike but in a smaller size for shorter riders.
The Bikeboard/Snow Freeride has made a
name for itself among winter sports enthusiasts and is considered THE
most frequently carve- and piste-tested fun model ever. The success of
the model has lead to the development of a snow bikeboard especially for
kids. They are specifically designed to fit the little ones' needs and
provide the same options as the Freeride model for grown-ups. The new
Junior model was created on the basis of the Freeride system. Equipped
with a robust sports bike handlebar and a design suitable for kids.
Bikeboard/Snow Junior provides small children with the fantastic
opportunity to quickly experience the same level of excitement on the
snow slopes used by adults as it is so easy to learn how to take curves
and to glide with it.
We found this bike through a friend in
the industry. We had the opportunity to demo this bike at the 5th Annual
International Durango SkiBike Festival. The Swiss Bikeboard had only
been released in January of 2007. We here at SkiBikeFun were interested
in the bike for a few key reasons:
- Its a Bikeboard!-The world
outside of the US is full of similar style bikes we call board
bikes. Swiss "Bikeboard" is a registered trademark and brand. The
term board bike refers to skibikes with this type of stand up, large
snowboard style boards. Any who...these board bikes are really loved
across the world to include Europe and especially Japan. You can
purchase performance rated machines not only from Swiss Bikeboard
but other board bike manufacturers across the world. If you've never
ridden one of the things on a powder dump, you're missing something
special!
- No footski dilemma-Bike is
designed to be ridden w/o footskis and can pass the lift
requirements at some resorts if bike loaded per MFG design and kept
strapped to one foot when loading and unloading the chair. Its a lot like
loading a lift with a snowboard attached. One foot strapped in, the
other is free.
- The bike is designed to
travel!-Most skibikes have the issue of travel ability. This bike is
designed with that in mind. It breaks down very easily for travel
and comes with its on bag that is small enough to check through
airline luggage and is convertible to a backpack for carrying the
bike.
Our test runs on the bike were as
we expected from these board bikes. We did notice that the boards on
the Swiss Bikeboard are a bit smaller and narrower than some of the
board bikes we have ridden. This feature helped the bike be a little
bit friendlier on the harder packed snow surfaces. This bike is a
scream to ride and is designed to travel with you, where ever you
want to go. You...limit the destination.
